This family session at Balboa Park really captured the pure joy of play, and I was 100% here for it! It was the sweetest afternoon with this family of four, laughing, playing, and capturing all of that uninhibited little kid joy.

Balboa Park is one of the most iconic spots in San Diego, and it’s no surprise that it’s a favorite location for family photo sessions. It has stunning gardens, beautiful architecture, and wide-open spaces, which offer endless opportunities for kids to play and explore during their photo session.

We started the afternoon on the steps of one of the park’s most beautiful buildings, the San Diego Museum of Art. The family shared some sweet moments while snacking on croissants and pastries together. 

But my favorite part of their session was when we headed over to the fountain and they busted out their skateboards and bicycles. The kids had a blast riding their little bikes, and they even gave skateboarding a try with some help from mom and dad! (Seriously, you have to scroll down and see it, it’s absolutely adorable).

I love how family sessions like these have such a special way of freezing these memories forever. Time flies by so fast, especially with little kids, and before you know it, the toddler bikes have turned into big kid bikes and they no longer need to hold Mom and Dad’s hand to ride a skateboard. Documenting these moments now preserves the everyday joys of childhood before they change.
