Settling in at home with your newborn is a whirlwind of emotions, from pure joy to complete exhaustion, and the thought of leaving the house for a photo session can feel overwhelming. That’s why I love in-home newborn sessions—they’re relaxed, personal, and completely centered around you and your baby’s comfort.
When doing newborn photos, your baby is going to be most comfortable and most cozy in your arms…and where will you be most cozy? In your home (or let’s be real, in your bed!). One of the biggest benefits of an in-home session is that you can stay right in your most comfortable space, which is going to make both you and your baby feel extra relaxed and at ease during your session. Also, since the most ideal time for newborn photos is within the first two weeks postpartum, being at home means you can wear cozy clothes and be extra comfortable while you may still be recovering.
Another reason in-home newborn sessions are so special is that they document your baby’s first home. Your house might be messy, there might be dishes piled up and baby stuff everywhere, but that’s completely okay! This is the place that you brought your baby home to and it’s beautiful. And frankly, you don’t need a perfectly styled home for great photos. Most newborn photos are shot tightly framed, so that we can focus on all those tiny details, like their fingers and toes and eyelashes. To be honest all we really need anyways, is a window with some natural light and then we’ll be all set!
Being at home, also allows us to move at your baby’s pace. If they need a diaper change, a feeding, or just extra snuggles, we can take our time. There’s no rush, no pressure, just a calm environment where you can soak in all those warm and fuzzy newborn cuddles. And if your baby cries? That’s okay too. Some of the sweetest moments happen when parents are simply holding and comforting their little one.
In-home newborn sessions aren’t just about getting beautiful photos—they’re about capturing this fleeting season in the most natural and meaningful way possible. Want to get a better idea of what a newborn session will look like? Check out the gallery below!
