If you’re looking for a way to make your photos feel extra special and personal, then adding film is the perfect choice! There’s something just so nostalgic and timeless about film photos. Film has this amazing ability to give images an almost magical feel while still keeping them rooted in something real and tangible. I LOVE when couples decide to add film to their wedding or photo session, so let’s dive in and explore why it’s such a great addition!
Film photography is all about capturing the moment as it actually is. There’s no post-production editing and no do-overs. What you see on film is exactly what happened, in its purest and most unfiltered form. There’s something so beautiful about knowing that a specific moment was frozen in time without any digital tweaks. Whether it’s a quiet, intimate moment between you two, or your grandmother dancing during your reception, or your friend’s goofy laughing face, film captures it all exactly as it is.
One of the most exciting things about film is that you don’t get to see the final images right away like you can by looking at the back of a digital camera. You have to wait to see what was captured—and in that waiting, and with the whirlwind of a wedding day, I often forget about some of the amazing moments I documented! During a wedding, I not only capture the big moments of your day on film but also all those little, in-between, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it kind of moments. There’s always something unexpected or unpredictable that gets frozen in time and captured on film. It’s a surprise for both me and my couples every time and I love it.
A wedding day is always full of different lighting situations—there’s the bright sun during a midday ceremony, the soft natural light of golden hour, and the typically low light of a wedding reception. What I love about the film type I use, Kodak 400, is that it handles every lighting scenario beautifully. My Nikon F100 is my main camera throughout the day, giving me precise control over each shot, while my Nikon One Touch is my quick, go-to option for candid, off-the-cuff moments. Together, they create a dynamic and balanced look that you’ll absolutely LOVE.
Remember the days when you’d get film prints back from the shop and hold each photo in your hands, flipping through them one at a time? When you add film to your package, you won’t just get digital scans—you’ll also get physical prints like it’s 1999! I love sending the prints to my couples and giving them something tangible from the day. Holding a photo in your hands makes the memory feel even more personal and meaningful.
I love how film photography brings such a fun, effortless quality to your wedding or photo session. It’s real, it’s raw, and it’s a perfect way to capture your memories in a timeless way.
